James was born on June 10th, 1885 in Burstow, Surrey, England. James' father was Thomas Kenward and his mother was Susannah Maynard. His paternal grandparents were Robert Kenward and Amelia Daniels. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Percival, Frederick, George, Susannah, Amelia, Lizzie, Edith and Clara. He was the second oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 85 in June 1970 in Taunton, Devon, England.
