Amelia was born in 1893 in Horley, Surrey, England. Amelia's father was Thomas Kenward and her mother was Susannah Maynard. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Kenward and Amelia Daniels. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, James, Percival, Frederick, George, Susannah, Lizzie, Edith and Clara. She is the fifth youngest of the ten children.
