Annie was born in 1859 in Leafield, Surrey, England. Annie's father was Benjamin Kenward and her mother was Jane Gorringe. Her paternal grandparents were Josiah Kenward and Ann Bashford. She had five brothers named Abraham, Robert, Joseph, Thos and Henry. She is the youngest of the six children.
