Eliza Harriet was born in 1857 in Richmond, Victoria, Australia. Eliza Harriet's father was Alfred Barratt Biggs and her mother was Harriet Burville. Her paternal grandparents were Abraham Biggs and Eliza Coleman. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Alfred Andrew, George Pullen, Albert Walter, Isabella Alice, Biggs and May Adeline Burville. She is the second oldest of the seven children.
