Verney was born on June 2nd, 1883 in Cowden, Kent, England. Verney's father was Charles Longley and his mother was Mary Patmore. His paternal grandparents were John Longley and Esther Kenward. He had four brothers and a sister, named Charles, Percy, Spencer, Albert and Mary. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 68 in 1951 in Surrey, England.
