Robert William was born before March 10th, 1832 in Tolleshunt Knights, Essex, England. Robert William's father was John Brunwin and his mother was Hannah Wade. His paternal grandparents were William Brunwin and Hannah Prior. He had a brother and six sisters, named Henry John, Mary, Hannah, Sarah, Eleanor, Eliza and Elizabeth Ann. He was the youngest of the eight children. He had a half-brother named John. He died about 1909.
