Emma was born about 1894. Emma's father was George Turpin Blackler and her mother was Susan Emma Horrell. Her paternal grandparents are Richard Henry Blackler and Mary Ann Turpin. She had two brothers and three sisters, named George, Earnest Henry, Beatrice Emma, Minnie Horrell and Lily. She is the second youngest of the six children. She has a half-brother named Roy.
