Eliza was born in 1865 in Totnes, England. Eliza's father is Richard Henry Blackler and her mother is Mary Ann Turpin. Her paternal grandparents are Thomas Blackler and Rebecca Norris; her maternal grandparents are Male Turpin and Mary. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Samuel Turpin, George Turpin, John Evans Turpin, Mary Ann, Ellen and Minnie Kate. She is the second youngest of the eight children.
